When I think of Young Nik, I think Of the Future of Hip-Hop. You will understand why she is the truth. Here, is my interview with her. Read and Enjoy.
Where are you from? Give the people a little background about yourself ?
I am Young Nik the Firegirl from Fort Greene projects in Brooklyn, for those that don't know. I am black, Trinidadian and Cherokee Indian. I am one of the best as an artist.
How long have you been doing music ?
I've been doing music about 4 years now maybe 5.
Do you remember the first time you fell in Love with hip-hop? When was it and how old were you?
I can't remember the age but it goes back as far as I can remember, I know it was elementary school, banging on the tables, listening to Mary J, Biggie and Wu-tang, etc etc. Big Daddy Kane made me love rap first! I knew every word of his songs lol.
When did you start rapping?
My whole family is into music, so it was inevitable. I'm a Pisces and they say we are musically inclined. God showed me what he gave me and I ran with it. The whole feeling of rap was partying and talking about where you from. I'm from Fort Greene and my neighborhood has a lot of stories to tell lmao, and partying I been doing that since elementary.
Who were your biggest musical influences?
Big Daddy Kane, Queen Latifah(who u calling a bitch? Lmao) that was my shit, MC Lyte, Biggie, Jay-z, Foxy, Kim because they were all from Brooklyn and I could really relate to them. I grew up in similar areas, wearing versace, moschino, dkny like they spoke of in their rhymes, I was living that shit.
How would you describe your style?
My style is hip-clectic, people say what's that, its hip hop with a taste of anything I want. You might hear hip-hop and rock, hip-hop and Mozart, hip hop and country, anything is possible under hip-clectic baby. Anything.
Whats one thing you feel you can improve on musically ?
Nothing, I think I'm great, and you should think I'm great also. Who's greater than me? Lol, But at the same time there is always room for improvement, I just don't see it yet.
Whats one thing you feel hip-hop music is missing?
ME!
What one thing you feel u can bring to the industry?
Me! And a lot more quality music. I will bring songs with topics that make sense lol. I write for me, but I'm almost normal lol, so everyone can relate. I'm bringing a lot of love, longevity and determination. I want to be a role model for my generation and beyond.
What is your outlook on the music industry?
I think the music industry is going through some problems. It seems like they do not know and trust talented artist. There are plenty of good artists out there, not just rappers, but artists that deserve a shot. Many do not get their shot because they don't sound like everyone else. Personally, I don't plan on sounding like no one so get ready, I'm doing what I want!!!!!!!!!!
What other up & coming acts do you admire?
Ok, besides Young Nik lol, hmm I like Rob-o, Sky-o, Mickey Facts, Push, Donna Black, etc ... I like those artist but I only Admire Myself and those that paved the way for me!
What are your favorite hip-hop albums and Who Are Your Favorite MCs ?
On The Rize!/I Do Me!- Young Nik the Firegirl, Biggie, Reasonable doubt-Jay-z, Nas, Big L, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Young Nik the Firegirl lol, Foxy Brown- Broken Silence(classic).
What era of hip-hop do you like the most? Is it early, mid, or late 80's or 90's or 2000's to present?
Damn, I love hip-hop so much I can't choose, I accept it with all its changes, I learn to love all of hip hop. I feel like hip hop loves all of me, if u get it.
What current projects are you working on ?
Damn, I got so much its crazy. The things I can talk about now is my new album "I Do Me", its crazy. I have a lot of hits and no deal so I might pull it, not sure yet. Getting Tested!!!!!!!!!

Everyone knows that you have to protect yourself when you are sexually active. I don't care how safe you think you are you can never be too safe. All that goes out the window once you take an HIV Test. You mind starts tweaking. I always have protected myself. Shit, Condom is my middle name (lol).
Nevertheless, I was thinking bout every girl I had sex with in my life during the 20minute wait for my results. Needless to say, those were the longest 20 minutes of my damn life. But, I must say it was well worth it. Get Tested Know Where You Stand!!!!!!!!!!

A Rapper V.S. The MC

In Hip-Hop there are two types of entertainers that are at the top of the game. There are rappers and MC's. Many people do not know the difference between the two, but I'm here to break it down to you.
A rapper is simply an artist that can poetically put his words/ rhymes on beats. He or she has the quality that draws you into their music. With Rappers you only like their music and maybe other qualities such as style but it ends there. Rappers have a small impact on the culture. Many rappers grow to be MC's such as Jay-Z, Nas and Biggie. In order for a rapper to be a great MC, he has to take himself to that star level. This level can be seen as the rapper's career continues. They step their whole game up. Commercial success has nothing to do with being a great MC, but it is a plus.
A MC, is the upgraded version of a rapper. Every great MC was once a rapper. They became MC's because they created a new lane/style/music/sound in hip-hop. The MC's music is top of the line, he/she is a performer who has the ability to connect deeply with their audience through music. His/her style is impeccable. Everything he/she says and touches is platinum. The MC is able to reinvent himself and change with the times. Thus, the number one quality of being an mc is that you must have timeless music. Your music never dies.
When you are an MC, many people bite your whole persona, which can be traced very easily.
Example:
Big Daddy Kane Brooklyn swag and persona, can be seen in artist like Jay-Z & Fabolous.
Slick Rick's style can be seen through Pharell, when your talking about sick jewelry game.
In conclusion, rappers are just the guys who can musically convey his/her thoughts and ideas thoroughly through music. While, the MC is able to do that, he/she reaches a broader audience and has the greatest impact on the culture.
When you are A MC you surpass just the music realm of hip-hop. Your name becomes synonymous with Hip-Hop.
Here is A list of some Rappers & MC's

2. Beanie Sigel
3. Styles P

Women & Text Messaging

As a young male, I love women. I feel that text messaging was created for women by women. The reason why women love text messaging is because it gives them a barrier in communication. They are able to communicate without you noticing any emotional changes. They would rather do that all day than talk. As men, we don't want to text and do all that shit. I bet any amount of money, if a girl had an argument with her boyfriend through text messaging, when she saw him face to face she wouldn't have anything to say. Women love to hide behind text messaging, emails and aim as well as men do. Yet, I feel women take it to an extreme lol.
I asked several ladies the question: Why Do You Love to Text ?
The Answers that I received were very interesting.
Here Are Some Reasons Why Women Love Text Messaging:
1. It gives them control.
2. If they talked on the phone they would get aggravated quickly.
3. They don't like talking on the phone.
4. It's just better lol.
5. It's easy ans fast way to contact people.
6. Through text messaging you are able to have a conversation at anytime.
My summary is that women just love to talk and in their text messaging is the greatest thing on the planet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do Young Black Males Value Education?
As a young Black male growing up in Brooklyn, I felt that education was not stressed enough as I moved up in the new york city school system. I watch many of my male peers drop-out of school and many never even started college.
I noticed that many young black males growing up, rather obtain money through work or hustling than a diploma or a college degree. I feel that this issue needed to be brought to the light.
I came up with the idea of filming a documentary on this topic. I titled my documentary: Do Young Black Males Value Education?
I interviewed 3 black males, which were all from different backgrounds and ages ranged from 19-24. I asked them about their outlook on education as a young black male.
I also asked questions like : How do you feel about a large number of black females graduating as opposed to black males?
All 3 of the males I interviewed gave good answers to my questions as well as great solutions to help fix this crisis.
